A few years ago, a series of unfortunate events led me to an examination room at the U of M clinic where I first met Dr. Hirsch. An accident that left me with a broken collar bone and ribs led to an MRI that then revealed an aneurysm. This was a scary diagnosis and the fear I felt was crippling. But then Dr. Hirsch walked in and introduced himself with a big smile on his face.
During our conversation his confidence, empathy and enthusiasm was uplifting. He listened to my concerns, answered my questions and alleviated my fears. It was easy to see his passion for medicine and genuine concern for his patients.
To me Dr. Hirsch was a bright light of assurance in a time of uncertainty. He was more than a doctor, he was a rock of solidarity. Beyond sound medical advice, his positivity provided me with the support I really needed.
I can only hope that in this time of bereavement his family, friends and colleagues find that same support that he was able to provide to me.
