STEIN, DR. PHILIP JOSEPH
Dr. Philip Joseph Stein 102. Devoted husband of the late Elaine Krensky Stein. Loving father of Louise Naomi Harel nee: Stein (Dan), son Daniel Stein, and granddaughters Michal and Ayelet Harel. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael Stein and Gussie Shapiro Stein, stepmother Ethel Shapiro Stein, and his sister Ruth Stein Kalman. He was born in Chicago, attended South Shore Chicago High School then received his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Chicago Rush Medical School. He served in WWII as Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Medical Corp. He owned a private OB/GYN practice his entire career. He was the Chief of the OB Department at Edgewater Hospital and also practiced at Cook County Hospital, City of Chicago Clinics, Downey Veteran Administration Hospital, Illinois Masonic Hospital, and most recently, St. Francis Hospital until his retirement. He was an avid swimmer and was part of the University of Chicago Big 10 Championship Water Polo Team. He loved playing classical piano, bird watching, and poetry. Funeral services were held Friday, February 17, 2017 at 1:30PM in the Chapel at Three Crowns Park, 2323 McDaniel Ave., Evanston, IL. Interment Rosehill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Philip’s name to Kawaga Garden or Emily Oaks Nature Center, Skokie Park District, or The Jewish National Fund would be appreciated.
